Introducing: The Cambridge First All-Ladies Fire Brigade

It’s here! Our first showcase of 15 minutes from “The Cambridge First All-Ladies Fire Brigade” and you can watch it on YouTube to your heart’s content!

It features superb performances from Elexi Walker, Courtney Stapleton, Elena Pitsiaeli, Maddison Bulleyment and Rosie Coles, with Alex Beetschen as MD, all hosted by the brilliant Birmingham Hippodrome Musical Theatre Writers Group.

We’re also unbelievable excited to announce that our writing team – Jenni Pinnock, Brian Mackenwells and myself – are still being supported by Birmingham Hippodrome to develop the show, and have just found out we’ve been selected as part of the next Lincoln Arts Centre “Innovate Artists” cohort! We’ll be spending some time in Lincoln, working with local talent and the University’s musical theatre students to develop new songs and explore connections with one of our show’s main characters: Lincoln-born mathematician and trailblazer, Charlotte Scott!

  • B*TCH – an evolutionary, revolutionary cabaret

B*TCH – an evolutionary, revolutionary cabaret

Charles Darwin described female animals like he described Victorian housewives: passive, coy, monogamous, submissive… the perfect foil to those swashbuckling males who are really driving evolution, as the old-school textbooks say.

It’s time to set the record straight by writing a riotous comedy cabaret show based on zoologist Lucy Cooke’s non-fiction book “B*TCH”, featuring a kaleidoscope of songs written by women and non-binary creative teams and a script by me!

Stand by for self-cloning lizards, pairs of devoted albatross mums and post-menopausal killer whales as they take the mic, scuttling/swooping/swimming onto stage to challenge outdated binary expectations of bodies, brains, biology and behaviour.

Come and see the very first 10 minutes of the show on Thursday 30th October at LAMDA’s Sainsbury Theatre, as part of The Scratch – a new material night hosted by Wooden Arrow! See a fun video I made for Instagram, and get tickets here.

  • Christmas Magic can be yours!

Those of you on my mailing list will know how proud I was of the festive song Lucy Armstrong and I wrote for Glyndebourne Opera and Create Music last year, called Christmas Magic. More than 2,000 primary school kids from Sussex stomped their feet, clapped their hands and sang about flying reindeer and the Northern Lights during December…

…and now YOU can sing it too!

Lucy has all sorts of arrangements ready for primary school choir, mixed adult/children’s choir, with small musical ensemble or just piano. Email me if you’re interested and I can share all the options with you.

Sadly I don’t have a recording of the song that I can share in public – yet – but here’s the lyrics for now. Look at their happy little faces in the rehearsal photo above! They adored the song too.

Or if you’d like to commission us to write you a fabulous, fun, festive song of your own, you know where to find me
