Midnight Pals

In the middle of a busy month full of wild gigs (Our Cambridge Theatre show sold out to 1,200 nerds and brought Unnecessary Detail to the West End! I recorded a cool TV show I can’t tell you about until Christmas! Sienna Clarke sang our teenage jiu jitsu suffragette song in the Stiles + Drewe Best Song Prize final! I wrote two new songs for A Podcast Of Unnecessary Detail including a 9 minute musical about automotive pioneer Bertha Benz! The Overture showcase for my Astronaut show is happening this Friday! I did a solo show in a planetarium in Leicester!) here is a moment of calm and a podcast you might like to listen to.

Almost Astronauts song on The Craft Of Writing podcast

Happy days! The Craft Of Writing – my favourite new podcast about making musical theatre – hosted by the effervescent Sam Hall has picked one of my songs for a special end-of-season episode. It’s from an old version of “Almost Astronauts” that I’m writing with Jenna Dyckhoff about women in the early years of the Space Race. We’re in the final of the Stiles + Drewe Song Prize 2023!

In yet more news that can only be described as “absolutely batshit”, the title song from my musical based on Iszi Lawrence’s teenage jiu jitsu suffragette novel – The Unstoppable Letty Pegg – is up for the Stiles + Drewe Best New Song Prize 2023!!!

If last week’s news was huge, things have just got huge-er. Is that even a word? My co-writer on the show, James Hughes, and I are totally over the moon, not just to have made  it to the final, but also to be the same list as 11 others songs by 11 other beyond-brilliant songwriting teams.
