• Stargazing Live – Mersenne 48 for More or Less – IT Crowd Manual

Next week I’m hosting three big shows for BBC Live Events, in Portsmouth, Norwich and Royal Holloway. They complement the Stargazing Live BBC TV series from 6th to 8th January – if you’re in those areas take a look at the dates and how to get tickets here. I also wrote them a song, click on the image to the left for some sing-along astronomy.

Another new song for the BBC was on Radio 4 yesterday, in More Or Less, for their “Numbers of the Year” programme. If you’ve always wanted to receive the world’s biggest prime number for Christmas (who doesn’t?) you can download it for free here, or listen to the whole programme here.

You also might have caught a glimpse of me on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve, in a programme about the documentary… I mean sitcom… “The IT Crowd” by Graham Linehan. It’s only about 15 seconds of fame, but the whole programme is great and you can still see it on 4OD here.

One last thing! Our Full Frontal Nerdity tour starts in a couple of weeks and tickets are on sale. We’d love to see you at one of them – full listings below, and tickets available here.

  • You Have Been Warned – series 2 starts tonight on Discovery UK!

Sorry for short notice, but I’ve just found out I’m back on your small screens tonight, with You Have Been Warned, the world’s greatest user-generated pop science show. I’m explaining the science behind some of the silliest videos on the internet, along with Matt Parker of Festival of the Spoken Nerd and others. Series 2 start at 8pm tonight and carries on for the next 12 weeks – do tune in!  If you’re not in the UK, look out for local listings across Europe and the rest of the world, though if you’re in the US or Canada you’ll probably have to wait until next year to watch it under the title “Outrageous Acts of Science”.

I’ve been doing quite a few TV bits this year (IT Crowd documentary for Channel 4, Coast for BBC Two, Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience for Comedy Central) but I don’t know when they’re being broadcast yet… join my mailing list if you want to find out the transmission dates , or even better, come along to one of my live shows and ask me then!

  • Rollercoasters for BBC Two, and “Physics – you’ve got to laugh…”

eureka Quick news update for Monday morning… the article I wrote for Financial Times Magazine is online now (with no paywall!) which means that you too can discover how to poke at science with a funny-stick, rather than just a serious one.

It was fun to write and I’ve had a lot of nice comments about it so far, I hope I get a chance to write more bits and pieces like this next year.

In between that, Ada Lovelace Day, and getting our new Festival of the Spoken Nerd tour on sale (Full Frontal Nerdity guaranteed – details for gigs in London and all over the UK are here) I’ve also been filming my first item for the fantastic BBC Two series “Coast”. It’s about the science of roller coasters, so I spent a very jolly Monday in Blackpool in the rain with a fantastic crew, climbing the UK’s tallest ride on foot. Twice. And then going on it more times that I can remember. It was utterly awesome and if you tune in to the next series in Spring 2014 you can see me scream my way around the Big One whilst attempting to explain G forces and camber.

If you want to make sure you don’t miss it, join my mailing list and I’ll let you know when it’s going out on the tellybox.
